About the Speakers

David Brězina

David Březina is a typeface designer, writer, researcher, and managing director at Rosetta Type. He has designed typefaces for a diverse palette of the world’s scripts, but focuses mostly on Gujarati and Latin. David holds a Master’s degree in computer science from Masaryk University in Brno (Czechia) and an MA in Typeface Design and PhD from the University of Reading (UK). His cross-disciplinary PhD thesis studied visual similarity and coherence of characters in typefaces for continuous reading in Latin, Cyrillic, and Devanagari scripts. He co-founded Design Regression, a mini journal publishing texts that are about design for reading and reading-related research.

Roy Chan 

Roy Chan is a multilingual type designer and founder of Moodmen Font Company with experience creating culturally nuanced typography across Chinese, Latin and Arabic scripts. A MA Typeface Design graduate from the University of Reading, he specialises in Chinese type design, revival practice, script harmonisation, font pairing solutions and technical font engineering. At Moodmen, he leads the full cycle from research and concept to production and release, two Traditional Chinese releases through crowdfunding and are adopted across Asia. With an early background in advertising and film distribution, Roy excels at localising typography across cultures and communicating complex ideas with clarity, aligning design craft, market insight and client collaboration to deliver clear, impactful results. He also teaches and promotes Chinese type design through education and public outreach.
